05/02/2014 - Experts claim that Brazil`s middle class will continue growing

The Economic Forum, in Davos, Switzerland, brings good news for Brazil. With a rapidly developing economy, falling unemployment rates, and new opportunities emerging, millions of Brazilians should migrate to the middle class, which will boost consumption.

According to Ricardo Villela Marino, chief executive for Itaú Unibanco in Latin America, 75% of Brazilians will be in the middle class by 2016. The information was welcome news for those present at the Forum, given that a consequence of this fact will be an increase in consumption and the opening of promising new and profitable market niches.

Still on the Forum, Marcelo Neri, the Minister for Strategic Affairs, talked about more positive data for Brazil. Over the past 10 years (2003-2013), 54 million Brazilians have moved up to the middle and high classes (classes A, B, and C). If this new middle class were a country, it would be one of the 25 most populous in the world.

Besides those who have risen to the middle class, Brazil already had 67 million in this class. The data from IPEA (Institute of Applied Economic Research) show that currently there are more than 120 million Brazilians in the middle class, which is two thirds of the population. Taken with the predictions of Marino, the Brazilian population could very well attain a rate of 75% in the middle class.
